Hits and Misses

I have been working on my stuff for Art on 'R Mountain. The more I am getting things done the more worried I am that I won't have enough. Time will tell, I guess. I'll post pictures of what I've made at the end of the week.

Today is about my adventures in applique....On the whole I'm happy with the results, minus one unfortunate looking pillow case.

Here are a couple of the Octopus pillow tops.

This was my very first foray into applique. I didn't have any sticky stuff to attach it, so I just pinned it in place....Not too shabby. It's a little bunched but I've still got to embroider eyes and such.

Here is my second Octopus (and my favorite)

Isn't she pretty? Again I'll do more embroidery on this and make a pillowcase out of it.

The next one is Stars Fell on Alabama

Kind of clashes doesn't it? I love it!

Now for the mess up. It really is tragic....

Such a sad little heart....needless to say this will not be making an appearance at the art show. Can't win them all, I guess. I like the idea of posting pictures of things that don't go according to plan. Reminds people that mistakes happen and not everything comes out looking like gold and smelling like roses. Not that my work does either of those things.

On a final note, this picture was completely taken by accident, but it might be one of the better pictures I've ever taken.

I am finally trying my hand at applique...

For some reason applique has always intimidated the hell out of me, this tutorial really made it seem doable. Andrea is really great at breaking down the process. Her work is also pretty inspiring, so give her blog a look.

I decided to do an octopus for my first foray..

I didn't have any of the Steam-a-Seam stuff so I just used basting pins ( we'll see if that was a good idea or not).

I'm really digging it so far. Here's a close up of my progress so far

I must admit, I am freakin' hooked. I have a pile of other projects in mid process, but all I want to do is work on this....

I've really been thinking about this blog lately. I don't want to half ass it, but I also don't want it to become my main focus. I'm starting to feel like I'm getting to a good mind set about it though.

Some things I'm thinking about doing on here are...once a week or month feature on a local artist (got this idea from Magic City Post , but I'll get back to that) and I was also wanting to do a once a week photo entry of what's on my design wall.....

Anyway, these are just some ideas. We'll see.
